Introduction
With the development of society, English has become an essential skill for students to master. The English mid-term exam is a comprehensive assessment of students' English learning ability and a crucial reference for teachers to adjust their teaching methods. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the mid-term English teaching results of Chengdu Vocational High School.
The Overall Results
The mid-term English exam was held on January 10th, 2024, and a total of 1,200 students participated. The average score was 75.6, which was lower than the expected average score of 80. Only 40% of students achieved a score above 80, while 20% of students scored below 60. The results indicate that there is still room for improvement in English teaching at Chengdu Vocational High School.
The Analysis of Different Grades
The mid-term exam results of different grades show that the overall performance of Grade 1 students was better than that of Grade 2 and 3 students. The average score of Grade 1 was 78.5, while the average scores of Grade 2 and 3 were 73.4 and 70.8, respectively. The top three students with the highest scores were from Grade 1, and their scores were all above 95. Therefore, we need to pay more attention to the English teaching of senior students.
The Analysis of Different ClassesThe results of different classes also show significant differences. Among the 50 classes, only 10 classes achieved an average score of over 80, while 15 classes had an average score below 70. The class with the highest average score was Class 1-1, with an average score of 87.2. On the other hand, Class 3-5 had the lowest average score of 62.3. The analysis shows that there are significant differences in English teaching quality among different classes, and we need to take measures to improve the quality of English teaching in the lower-performing classes.
The Analysis of Different Question Types
The mid-term exam consisted of listening, reading, and writing sections. The results show that students performed best in the reading section, with an average score of 78.5, while the writing section had the lowest average score of 70.4. In the writing section, the most challenging part for students was writing an article, with an average score of only 58.7. Therefore, we need to focus more on improving students' writing ability and providing them with more opportunities to practice writing.
Conclusion
In summary, the mid-term English teaching results of Chengdu Vocational High School were not satisfactory, and there is still room for improvement in English teaching. We need to pay more attention to the teaching of senior students, improve the quality of English teaching in lower-performing classes, and provide students with more opportunities to practice writing. With joint efforts from teachers and students, we believe that the English teaching level of Chengdu Vocational High School can be further improved.
